Last week, our ISO 14001 Environmental Management System was audited. We are very pleased to announce that we passed the audit and have been awarded our certification for another three years.

Nine years ago, we were the first law business to secure ISO 14001. Despite some of our peers subsequently following suit, we remain among the companies that are most committed to reducing the impact we have on the environment year after year. This commitment was abundantly clear to the auditor as he visited each of Lyons Davidson’s Bristol offices, as well our bases in Cardiff and Solihull, and this was duly noted in the special praise section of the final audit report.

Environmental management plan

This year’s Environmental Management Programme was particularly ambitious and sought to push us to reduce our impact even further, as well as engage with more of our employees and external stakeholders. We have made impressive progress in reducing the company’s overall paper consumption; with the paperless programme being rolled out firm-wide, we are now averaging 23% paperless.

Energy consumption

Great strides have been made to understand more about our energy consumption, with a view to driving this down without impacting on productivity. We are pleased to report that nearly every office’s consumption has dropped compared to last year’s figures.

Sustainable travel

We are also travelling more sustainably than ever, with more train journeys taken than car journeys for business purposes this year compared to 2013. Lastly, we have had more events and campaigns running this year and engagement has been steadily increasing.
