We are delighted to announce that we have been nominated in two categories of the CILEx National Awards. This is the first year for the awards, which were set up to recognise talent, innovation and business practices that open up access to the legal profession.

Sensitive and highly technical area of law

Philippa Morgan, head of Lyons Davidson’s Family Law department, is nominated for a Legal Expert Award. Philippa has been selected as a finalist because of her specialism in complex international disputes involving children. This very sensitive and highly technical area of law encompasses international parental abduction, disputes under the 1980 Hague Convention, parental abduction cases involving non-Hague Convention jurisdictions and recovery of children abducted to overseas jurisdictions.  Philippa has been involved in some of the most notable international children cases from the last decade and she is also known for her ability to support her clients when they are at their most vulnerable.

Personal and professional development

Lyons Davidson itself is a nominee for the Innovation & People Development Award.  This recognises businesses that enable personal and professional development of staff. We were chosen for our recruitment policies, which attract talent in many forms: this includes apprenticeships in legal, business and IT roles, and a trainee solicitor programme. With this nomination, we are also being recognised for encouraging staff to develop the skills and technical knowledge they need to excel at their jobs, and for enabling them to make use of course-funding for formal study, such as CILEx, ACL, Higher Rights and technical IT development courses.  As a business, Lyons Davidson has continually adapted to new challenges in the legal industry, from helping to develop legal apprenticeships in England, Wales and Scotland through to being at the forefront of ABS development.

Getting to this stage is a fantastic recognition of both Philippa’s unique talent and the effort we put into developing our staff as a business strategy. As we like to say – it’s our people who make the difference.

The winners of the CILEx National Awards will be announced at a ceremony in London on Thursday, 6 September 2018. The full list of finalists can be seen here.
